Dr. Manoj K. Sobti and Dr. S C Ahuja flagging the Protest Cycle Rally in Ludhiana today
Dr. Manoj K. Sobti and Dr. S C Ahuja flagging the Protest Cycle Rally in Ludhiana today
Ludhiana, March 11, 2018 (Hardik Kumar): A Protest Cycle Rally was organized by IMA Ludhiana against National Medical Commission (NMC). Around 150 doctors participated in the rally. The rally was flagged off by Dr. Manoj K. Sobti Past President IMA Punjab, Member Punjab Medical Council and Dr. S C Ahuja Former Principal DMCH. The Rally started from IMA House, BRS Nagar and continued on Ferozepur Road, till Bharat Nagar Chowk. The Rally consisted of 40 Doctors on cycles followed by doctors on Motorcycles, Ambulances and Cars.

Addressing the rally Dr. Manoj K. Sobti explained that this bill is Undemocratic because the NMC Bill consist of 25 members out of which 20 will be nominated by Central Government and 5 will be Elected from all the states of India, which means that the most of the states will not be representing in the central body (NMC). IMA objects to the nomination of Non-medical persons in NMC. Doctors want to be stake holders in NMC.

Dr. Sobti further said that NMC is Anti-People, Anti-Poor and Pro-Rich because the private medical colleges are allowed to fix fee of 40% medical students at their own will, while the fees of 60% will be fixed by the Government, which means to become a medical graduate, will be a very costly affair, out of reach for a common man.

This bill against the sons’ of soil policy because the foreign medical graduates will be allowed to practice in India while the medical graduates in India will have to appear in Exit Exam to practice in India and do further study.

Dr. Arun Gupta President IMA Ludhiana objected to the Bridge course for Atush doctors. It’s unfair that Ayush doctors after training for just 6 months can practice allopathic. This amounts to the public being treated by half-baked doctors.

Dr. Saroj Aggarwal Secretary IMA Ludhiana informed that the Memorandum against this Bill will be given to Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu. So that he can oppose this bill in the parliament. She further thanked the doctors for participating in the rally and Avon Cycles for sponsoring Cycles for Rally.
